Projecting / Suspended:

Projecting signs are cantilevered signs which are structurally affixed to the
building and oriented perpendicularly to the building facade.

Suspended or under Canopy signs, as the name suggests, are suspended under a canopy or an awning and perpendicular to the building facade.

Both signs may be illuminated, however, in most cases these are smaller in size and considered secondary signs.  Therefore, they are usually non-illuminated signs.
